I've dug up that thread because as of september 2017 I am also having this issue on a new purchased ASUS RT-AC68U rev e1 (so, 1ghz CPU) I have a fiber connection of 1000/200. Whenever I speed test it, core 1 of the router hits 99% while core 2 remains asleep (barely going over 4%)
